Buzz Lightyear
First seen in the movie Toy Story as a birthday gift for Andy, Buzz Lightyear is the fascinating and fictional character in the film. Also called as Buzz, he is a space ranger action figure. Buzz plays a prominent role in the film with the other protagonist Sheriff Woody. This captivating character is also seen to appear in the film Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins and in the Television series Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He also makes his presence in the two other sequels of Toy Story movie.
An interesting history surrounds Buzz. The imaginary character was created from an agreement signed between Pixar and Disney to work on a flick based on personality from Pixar’s Academy winning short movie Tin Toy that was to be named as Toy Story. John Lasseter, the director of Tin Toy, changed the protagonist Tinny to a military action figure adding the space theme because he believed it to be ‘too antiquated’. His name also undergone many changes and eventually it was decided as Buzz Lightyear.
Pertaining to Buzz’s attire, it was inspired from the dress worn by Apollo astronauts and also by the G.I. Joe action figures. Certain innovative design and the creation of this amazing figure can be credited to Bob Pauley, a production designer.
The humanoid figure Buzz at first did not realize that he was a doll and believed himself to be real. His thoughts are attention-grabbing and funny. Moreover, he does not realize that his equipments are not serviceable and thinks his laser is LED. Such beliefs cause chafing between Woody and Buzz. Buzz imaginary thoughts and doo-dads also grab the attention of other toys and also the audience.
In the series, Buzz utters a classic captivating line ‘To infinity and beyond’. Buzz is equipped with certain things that help him to perform certain task. For example: In Toy Story 2 the utility belt two magnets are stored and when activated it help him to climb. But about these different space suits there are limited facts available. This character has amused the audience with its humor and actions, and has become much liked.
